A little bit about me....
Welcome to Mrs. Walsh's amazing 5th grade Language Arts class! I am so excited to get to know each of my students personally and to teach them to their optimum ability. The second they walk through my classroom door is the very second each of them enter my heart. Welcome to the 2013-14 school year!
Here is a little bit about me. I grew up in Chicago, Illinois and attended Northern Illinois University. I was originally a teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing. (YES! I do know sign language!) Six years ago, I decided to move into the general education classroom. I am thrilled to be teaching 5th grade Language Arts at Norterra Canyon again this year! Language Arts is one of my all-time favorite subjects and I think by the end of the year, it may be one of yours too! The students will learn a lot about my "likes" and will probably come home with some new lingo such as pop, grammar school, and even cash station. They may even become Cubs, Bears, Bulls, or Blackhawk fans!
This year my husband, Jim, and I celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary. Together we have 3 phenomenal children. Our oldest, Allison, is 21 years old. She is going to be a senior at the University of Arizona! GO WILDCATS! We could not be more proud of her. Our son, Jimmy, is almost 20 years old and will be a sophomore at the University of Arizona. He wants to become an anesthesiologist. Jimmy has the ability to make us laugh almost daily and I am going to miss both he and Allison tremendously. Our youngest, Katie, is 17 and she is a senior at Deer Valley High School. Her birthday is July 4th. We also have two Golden Retrievers....
Guinness and Shadow. They are both rescues and bring our family much joy.
When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family. I even have fun just watching "Dancing With the Stars", "The Bachelor/Bachelorette", and "Modern Family" with my husband and children. Football is my favorite sport to watch on TV. The Bears will be starting soon and I am way excited! What's your favorite sport to watch? I LOVE popcorn....so I like to go to the movies or watch movies at home. I enjoy relaxing and chatting on the phone with friends while drinking coffee. I still LOVE going to concerts....and continue to do so even at my age. I have been to over 100 concerts and I am stil not tired of it.
I am looking forward to a fantastic year with you and your child! I am so blessed to be working with an awesome team of teachers who are amazing at what they do! I am grateful to have your child in my class. Thank you for sharing him/her with me!
Love,
Mrs. Walsh
